H.E King Carl XVI Gustaf and H.E Queen Silvia are visiting Lithuania on the 7-9th of October on invitation of President Dalia Grybauskaite. Minister for Foreign Affairs, Margot Wallström och Minister of Enterprise and Innovation, Mikael Damberg represent the Swedish government.
President of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, Jens Spendrup and Business Sweden’s CEO Ylva Berg are leading the business delegation. At a private sector forum – Swedish Business Forum and Awards – a price ceremony will held, awarding prominent Lithuanian and Swedish businesses.
The theme of the visit is "The Baltic Sea unites us" and the aim is to recognize and further strengthen Swedish-Lithuanian relations politically, culturally and economically.
Moreover, the purpose with the visit is to further encourage trade and investment exchange and increase the attractiveness of Swedish companies as well as emphasizing research, innovation and Corporate Social Responsibility. Several leading Swedish companies are already present in the Lithuanian market, among them IKEA, TeliaSonera and Swedbank.
The marine environment of the Baltic Sea will be in focus as well as the importance of new and efficient energy systems in the region, including the NordBalt cable – a project jointly managed by Sweden and Lithuania.
The last State Visit to Lithuania took place in October 1992.
