State Visit from India to Sweden 31st of May to 2nd of June

India is the country in BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) with the most positive economic growth. In a few years it is estimated that India will grow 8 percent annually. Trade between Sweden and India declined with 26 percent between 2011 and 2013, but since 2014 trade has been increasing steadily. The exponential economic growth that India is experiencing has resulted in India being one the Swedish government’s prioritized markets in the new export strategy.

The Indian President Shri Pranab Mukherjee is visiting Sweden on the 31st of May to 2nd of June on invitation by H.E King Carl Gustaf. In the presidential delegation, political decision-makers and business leaders come together to meet with their Swedish counterparts.

The purpose with the State Visit is to strengthen Sweden’s long-term political, economic and cultural ties with India. The main theme is innovation and sustainable development, focusing on urban development as well as science and research in life science. More information on the programme and participants will be shared closer to the visit.

This is the first State Visit by an Indian State leader in Sweden. The Swedish royal couple visited India in 1993, marking the first ever Swedish State Visit in India.
