Regional headquarters in Asia inaugurated

Prime Minister Stefan Löfvén and Ylva Berg, CEO at Business Sweden, opened Business Sweden's regional headquarters for Asia in Shanghai on Wednesday. The opening ceremony ended the extensive program for a business delegation that visited China this week.

Asia is today home to more than half of the world's population and for 40% of the world's Fortune 500 companies. Almost 50% of the world's total manufacturing value comes from Asia, which is now also a consumer market in the same size as North America and Europe.

-        Over the past two years, we have strengthened our presence in Asia and now we have 14 offices and more than 150 consultants in the region. However, we see the need for further increased presence, both to support Swedish companies that want to grow in the region, but we also need to strengthen efforts to attract investment to Sweden at the same time, says Ylva Berg, CEO of Business Sweden.

In Asia, China has a special position and accounts for half of Asia's economy and more than a third of world GDP growth. Rapid technological advances, digitalization, online sales and offensive Chinese infrastructure investments in South East Asia has increased trade exchanges between China and all other Asian markets by 20% on a yearly basis. This means that China is imperative for Swedish company's continued expansion throughout Asia.

-        The main role of our regional headquarters is to strengthen the offer to Swedish companies in their Asian growth initiatives. It stretches from strategic advice to practical support in business development. It is important to secure the strength of Sweden's investment promotion in the region, says Tobias Glitterstam, regional manager APAC.
