A bank guarantee is an undertaking by the principal’s bank to pay the beneficiary of the guarantee a specific amount in the event of a claim, if the principal does not honour his undertakings according to the contract between the parties. A guarantee may also be issued by an insurance company (“insurance guarantee”).
