Business Sweden, the Swedish Embassy in Amman and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs arranged in 2015 for the first time a Swedish delegation to the UN and their implementing partners in Jordan. The delegation included a visit to the refugee camp Azraq. The purpose of the event was to facilitate for more collaborations and present Swedish companies’ products and services to current UN agencies.

UN agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) allocate a large part of their humanitarian and development aid to the Middle East and despite Swedish companies’ good reputation, they account for a very small share of UN procurement, both globally and in the Middle East. Therefore, the delegation aimed to promote Swedish solutions to the UN, as well as to open up a door for Swedish companies with the interest to increase their involvement in the UN and the Middle East.

The delegation to Jordan’s capital city Amman was arranged in October 2015 and was led by the Swedish minister for Civil Affairs together with representatives from departments such as the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and Swedish companies. The delegation consisted of 16 companies, 24 delegates, totally 36 representatives including government officials and the team from Business Sweden. The UN agencies UNHCR, RC/HC, UNDP, UNRWA, UNOPS, UNICEF and the Danish and Norwegian Refugee Councils DRC and NRC also participated.
