Mechanical engineering in the Czech Republic

The Czech mechanical engineering industry specializes in the production of turnkey equipment solutions and machinery. It has largely transformed into a high-value-added manufacturing sector where most of the local producers moved up the value chain. This industry has also attracted a number of notable foreign investors.

The Czech Republic is the fifth largest producer of machine tools per capita in Europe and eighths in the world. Transportation solutions, air-conditioning equipment, turbines, machine-tools and construction machinery are the top export categories of the Czech mechanical engineering industry. A number of multinational mechanical engineering companies have established their production facilities in the Czech Republic such as: ABB, Doosan, Eaton, Honeywell and Siemens.

Mechanical engineering sector accounts for more than 6000 producers, which employ over 26% of the total workforce. Around 3500 students majoring in mechanical engineering graduate yearly in the Czech Republic.  The country offers highly qualified but yet cost-efficient labor force. The sector is highly competitive and ca 90% of all the products manufactured by the Czech mechanical engineering enterprises go for export, mainly to other EU countries.
