Business Sweden in Hong Kong

an image
Hong Kong is a traditional hub in Asia, encompassing commerce, trade and logistics, making it interesting for Swedish businesses that want to grow their business in Asia.

During many years Hong Kong was considered the world’s most free market and today the region provide an international business climate, world class infrastructure, an uncomplicated tax system and a strategic and geographically favourable location. These are some of the advantages that make the market a significant business centre in the region as well as an attractive place for foreign investors to establish.

Hong Kong is a trading partner with traditions and the number of Swedish companies operating in the region is growing annually. Today there are about 160-180 Swedish companies with a presence in Hong Kong. In 2014, Hong Kong was the 37th largest trading partner to Sweden with SEK 4,4 billion in total export (an increase with 10 percent from the year before). The most important Swedish exports are telecoms, vehicles, equipment, chemicals and instrumentation and measurement equipment.

Business Sweden has been active in Hong Kong since 1982 and we are six co-workers in the office at the moment. Together with our colleagues in China we also cover Macao and southern China. With many years of experience, supporting Swedish companies, we have created a formidable network and reached an outstanding level of competence in how business works in Hong Kong and in the wider region.

Hong Kong is a market economy strongly dependent on international trade and finance. Some of the most significant sectors are commerce, logistics, financial services, professional services and tourism. These industries deliver 58 percent of Hong Kong’s GDP. The political leadership has identified six other sectors as focus areas and invested heavily in cultural and creative industries, life science, educational services, environmental services and products, testing and certification as well as innovation and technology.

Hong Kong acts as a gateway and base for many companies operations in China. Because of this Business Sweden specialised in supporting Swedish companies in the early phases of establishment with for example visa applications, establishment of subsidiaries, recruitment, finding offices etc.

Please contact us and we can tell you more about Hong Kong as a market and a hub in Asia as well as how Business Sweden can support you with counselling, market analysis, connections and other areas that will facilitate your successful establishment.
