With around 64 percent of the population or more than 600 million people lacking access to electricity, Africa is in great need of sustainable energy solutions. Many countries have launched initiatives in order to increase the number of generated megawatts and electricity connections in Africa. Sweden´s partnership with the “Power Africa” initiative is one example of this. Other European countries have either joined this initiative and/or created their own programmes.
Many Swedish energy companies have voiced the need for increased Governmental support in order to strengthen their position in Sub-Saharan Africa. Swedish companies need support in gaining information & access to decision makers, and leverage on a strong position and a broad commitment within Power Africa”
The Swedish Energy for Africa programme is designed to meet this need and complement Sweden´s Power Africa partnership. It is run by Business Sweden, supported by government agencies, finance institutions and other promotional organisations (i.e. “Team Sweden”).
This is a long term membership program that facilitates for Swedish companies to do business within the energy sector in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).Through a Team Sweden approach, there is targeted support to key projects but widened focus where buyers are relevant for a larger company base.
WHICH MARKETS DOES THE PROGRAMME FOCUS ON?
Business Sweden carried out a study to identify some of the major business opportunities for Swedish companies in Sub-Saharan Africa. Based on this study and our existing networks, the programme will initially focus primarily on Southern Africa (South Africa, Zambia, Botswana and Mozambique); East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Ethiopia) and West Africa (Nigeria). Other countries may be included on a case by case basis.
WHY SHOULD WE PARTICIPATE AND WHAT IS INCLUDED?
