Petainer Lidköping AB was founded in Sweden in 1957 and specializes in the development, design and manufacturing of PET (PolyEthylene Terephthalate) plastic containers. Their one-way keg is used for packaging beverages such as wine, beer, cider, water and soft drinks.
Great potential for export
In 2012, Petainer was selling products in Europe and Russia, and their market share was increasing. Petainer decided to continue their international expansion, focusing on North America. Petainer’s keg design had already been launched on a trial basis with breweries in the U.S., and the company believed there to be interest in the product on the North American market. With assistance from Business Sweden, Petainer started their entry into the United States and Canada.
Petainer asked Business Sweden to analyze the regulatory landscapes in the U.S. and Canada to understand how these aspects would affect their ability to initiate sales in North America. Petainer was subsequently able to decide on an action plan in order to begin selling, and the same year their keg was successfully launched with breweries and wineries across the region.
Analysis and operational Support
Business Sweden continued to support Petainer's North American expansion by providing Business Support Office services such as office space, bookkeeping and accounting. After two years of increasing demand, Petainer asked Business Sweden to take on operational support activities for their U.S. business, including the management of customer inquiries, orders and quotations. To accelerate Petainer’s sales on the U.S. market, Petainer also asked Business Sweden to conduct a U.S. market analysis, providing additional insight into market indicators, key potential customer segments and the key routes to market.
- Business Sweden has been and continues to be an important partner for Petainer and our ambitions in North America. Business Sweden's expertise in the regulatory framework, combined with customized market analyses have been critical to safely and quickly understand the challenges that we may face in the region, said Andy Carter, Vice President of Petainer Manufacturing USA.
