Indonesia - Growth Through Acquisition

In order to fulfill client demands and given the foreseeable market growth potential, ÅR Packaging decided to strengthen local production capabilities in Indonesia. Business Sweden supported in guiding the right way to a successful acquisition of a local packaging company.

ÅR Packaging is a global leader and innovator in the packaging industry. The company was challenged by a long-term Indonesian client to set up production facility in Indonesia. This challenge led ÅR Packaging to engage with Business Sweden in Jakarta.

Business Sweden supported ÅR Packaging by performing a comprehensive Indonesian market analysis for the food, beverage and tobacco sectors. The analysis also included identification of  key stakeholders, regulations and demands for a foreign direct investment. As part of the market analysis, ÅR Packaging decided to further explore the Indonesian market by participating in a visiting program.

During the visiting program, Business Sweden supported ÅR Packaging in meeting stakeholders and  introduced ÅR Packaging to several potential clients and existing players within the packaging industry in Indonesia. The activities were crucial for the long-term investment plan of ÅR Packaging in Indonesia.


Just a few months after the market analysis and the visiting program, ÅR Packaging acquired a majority stake of PT Maju Jaya Sarana, a local packaging companies identified and introduced by Business Sweden. The acquisition is expected to improve local capabilities throughout the value chain in manufacturing, procurement, sales and marketing.
