Flexus’ long-term work in Italy has paid off

In Italy, where waste management is a big problem in some parts of the country, there is a large demand for reliable and cost-effective solutions. Together with Business Sweden's office in Milan, Flexus has sold its products and services to three different customers in southern Italy. But the outcome was not given.

Flexus Balasystem AB is a Swedish manufacturer with a long experience of designing and manufacturing systems for municipal solid waste, recycling and agricultural materials. Flexus' round-bale technology offers significant advantages in terms of cost efficiency and environmental safety, with well over a hundred installations worldwide, but not in Italy until now.

"Italy a complex market"

- Italy is a complex market where local knowledge and an understanding of what it is like to do business are two extremely important factors. It has taken some years, but thanks to our Italian representative and the support from Business Sweden we suddenly look at the Italian market very positively, says Peter Svensson, Sales Manager at Flexus.

Flexus' cooperation with Business Sweden started in 2011 and since then Flexus has participated in Business Sweden's annual booth at the environmental technology exhibition Ecomondo. In 2014, the cooperation intensified through direct sales support within the framework of the BSO (Business Support Office), and in November 2014 the first deal was closed followed by two more in 2015 with a total value of approximately 15 million SEK.

Sales support and patience

Business Sweden's role in the cooperation with Flexus is to support sales and to cooperate with the local partner, screening the market for potential new business and act as a door opener to the Italian companies.

- There are often long sales cycles in the industry and it is important to be patient and never give up which is something that Flexus has not done and now is paying off with the first machines sold and delivered and with many interesting leads in the pipeline. The future of round-baling in Italy looks bright, says Marcus Persson, Project Manager at Business Sweden in Milan.
