Systemair is a leading ventilation company with operations in 49 countries. The product range includes energy-efficient fans, air handling units, products for air distribution, air conditioning, air curtains and heating products. Systemair already had established commercial presence in Africa, but despite considerable estimated market potential, Africa was Systemair’s smallest regional market. This motivated the decision to hire a market representative based in East Africa. With a representative office in Kenya, Systemair’s intention was to expand commercial activity and cover Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Eritrea, South Sudan and DRC.
To enable the envisioned market entry in Kenya and the wider region of Eastern Africa, Systemair asked Business Sweden to assist them in recruiting a Sales Manager to manage the regional office in Nairobi.
A CLEAR PROFILE GUIDED THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS
In collaboration with Systemair, Business Sweden created a candidate target profile adapted to local conditions, from which the recruitment process was designed. In order to reach potential candidates, Business Sweden utilised their network in the region and advertised in job advert websites, industry specific organisations and forums, university alumni organisations and social media including LinkedIn. Business Sweden also carried out a targeted headhunt for the specific profile that was defined.
“We have worked with recruitment for a number of Swedish clients; working with Systemair was stimulating as they had a clear idea of the profile they were looking for. Our marketing efforts worked well, and resulted in a high number of qualified candidates that matched the desired profile,” says Anna-Paula Johnsson, Project Manager, Business Sweden.
CV-SCREENING AND INTERVIEWS GENERATED THE FINAL CANDIDATE
Altogether, 287 candidates applied for the job. Business Sweden screened all CVs and 19 candidates were shortlisted for interviews. The initial interviews were conducted by Business Sweden, and from this process ten candidates were selected for final interviews together with Systemair’s Director for Business Development, Mr. Jan Svallingson.
“We are very happy with how Business Sweden handled the recruitment. We have recruited many times before and have a clear target profile. The recruitment followed best practice, with good screening and interviews. I met with ten of the candidates, they were of good class and some were extraordinary, there among Ms Damaris Kola who got the job in May last year,” says Jan Svallingson.
CONTINUED COLLABORATION WITH SHARED OFFICE SPACE
After hiring Damaris Kola, Systemair provided training and visits to the different factories, and together with the rest of the Systemair team Damaris has educated clients and consultants. Damaris is today sharing office with Business Sweden in Nairobi.
