Sustainability by Sweden - Waste to Energy Checklist

The Waste to Energy (WtE) approach in Sweden not only eliminates high costs of using fossil fuel but also generates an annual revenue of USD 100 million through recycling of imported waste.

This fact has been a major point of interest from both the Indian government and waste to energy plant operators of which we have receive numerous enquiries during 2017 - 2018.  In order to provide access to correct information and/or institutional support from Sweden, the Embassy of Sweden and Business Sweden in New Delhi have developed a Waste to Energy self-assessment (checklist).

The self-assessment has been created with the support from various organisations in Sweden including the Swedish Energy Agency and the Swedish Waste Agency. The checklist provides an introduction to the journey of waste to energy sector in Sweden as well as an overview of the key components / actors of the value chain. Furthermore, the checklist section is a self-assessment designed to provide governmental and waste to energy plant operators with general control criteria based on key capabilities needed for establishing a sustainable Waste to Energy plant.  Once the checklist is completed and sent to the responsible person at Business Sweden, it will be used to assess the current situation the preparedness of municipality and assist in identifying the correct Swedish stakeholders as per local requirements.
