EMI AUGUST 2016: THE EXPORT TEMPERATURE DROPS

Export Managers' Index, EMI, fell to 53.9 during the third quarter, from 58.8 during previous quarter. Despite the decline, EMI is above the 50 mark, which indicates a continued positive export trend for Swedish companies.

The current EMI fell with 4.5 points to 48.1, which signals a more pessimistic view than usually among export companies. The EMI forecast fell by 5.2 points to 59.8. There is a major difference in how larger companies and small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) view the future.

Larger companies are the reason behind the decline in both the present situation for EMI and the EMI forecast, while a higher number of SMEs are positive in their assessment. The share of export companies that expect a higher market demand has declined since previous survey, mainly from Western Europe and the Middle East, Turkey and Africa.
