MAJOR NEEDS AND LARGE AMOUNT OF PLANNED INVESTMENTS WITHIN THE HEALTH CARE SECTOR IN IRAQ
The Iraqi health care sector is in great need of development and is explicitly asking for more Swedish companies to be present and active in building hospitals, hospital management, and supplying medical devices in oncology, infection control and intensive care. Iraq used to be one of the leading healthcare providers in the Middle East and there are now promising business opportunities for Swedish companies within the health care sector in Iraq.
The Iraqi government now aims to restore the healthcare system as part of the 2013 budgetary allocations and its strategic plan to 2014, under which the government plans to spend more than 5.4 billion USD in different hospitals and healthcare projects. In 2016 health care expenditures is expected to reach a value of 18 billion USD. This immediate short-term increase in health care expenditure on infrastructure will translate into a long-term driver of growth in expenditure of pharmaceutical sales, medical products and devices that offer business opportunities for Swedish firms.
MAKING SWEDISH HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, PRODUCTS AND SERVICES WELL KNOWN
The delegation will meet both high-level representatives and professionals from the Iraqi health care sector in Baghdad and Erbil. The visit aims at giving companies an understanding of business opportunities in Iraq and the opportunity to meet with key players on the market.
