The automotive industry in Turkey

Turkey manufactured approximately 1.1 million vehicles in 2012. 70% of the production was exported. And 70% of the exports were delivered to Europe, which places Turkey amongst 5 largest exporters of vehicles to Europe. It is expected that Turkish automotive sector will grow by 5% in 2013. Since then the industry has grown to become the country’s largest export industry. Several industrial zones have been established wherein all segments of the automotive industry are concentrated with the purpose to increase cooperation, communications and exchange of technologies.

Today 13 companies manufacture various types of vehicles such as passenger cars, buses, trucks, pickups, mini and midibuses and trailers. Five companies produce passenger cars (Fiat, Honda, Hyundai, Renault, Toyota), nine companies produce pickups and trucks (Isuzu, BMC, Ford, Hyundai, Karsan, Mercedes, Otokar, Temsa, Fiat) and nine companies produce buses and mini buses ( BMC, Ford, Hyundai, Isuzu, Karsan, MAN, Mercedes, Otokar, Temsa)
