Business Sweden, in cooperation with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Sweden, invites you to participate in a delegation trip to Baku, Azerbaijan, in conjunction with the visit by State Secretary for Trade, Mr. Gunnar Oom.
Azerbaijan has made it through the global crisis better than many other countries. Living standards have risen and poverty has declined. The relative prosperity, however, is based on the oil and gas industry and the country needs to diversify and develop its industry, expand health care and modernize agriculture. Education is another area that needs improvement.
Azerbaijan is characterized by a favorable investment climate, but has a potential for improvement in terms of democratic issues. Foreign direct investment in 2011 amounted to $ 4.4 billion, mainly in the oil and gas sector.
The Azeri side has expressed interest primarily for companies in the following sectors:
Energy, environment, ICT (plans to build a high-tech park), petrochemicals (they have raw material - oil - but the aim is to develop products from the oil), waste management, water, health care. To recover oil from contaminated soil is another interesting project. District heating exists but Azerbaijan wants to increase the use and they are currently discussing various systems. Heat transport could become a pilot. Wind and solar are also of interest.
Fee for participation
The fee for participation is SEK 30,000 excluding VAT. For one additional person from the same company the fee will be another SEK 7,000.
