Participate in high level discussions concerning the largest free trade agreement ever negotiated. Business Sweden, the Bay Area Council Economic Institute, and the Consulate General of Sweden cordially invite you to a seminar regarding the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement currently being negotiated by the United States and the European Union.
According to a report by the Bay Area Council Economic Institute, the Bay Area exported $9.2 billion worth of goods and services to Europe during 2012, and investors from the Silicon Valley region invested $3.3 billion in private equity and venture capital in Europe. The money and talent is already flowing between Silicon Valley and Sweden, with several successful Swedish start-ups, such as Spotify, King, and Wrapp, present in San Francisco along with large Swedish employers such as Ericsson. TTIP would significantly expand these ties. For small and medium sized companies (SME) the trade partnership would be especially valuable, given that trade barriers tend to disproportionally burden smaller firms, which often have less resources to overcome them.
Speakers and panelists:
Björn Lyrvall, Ambassador of Sweden to the United States
Tracey Grose, Vice President, Bay Area Council Economic Institute
Skip Jones, Executive Director for Europe and Eurasia, Global Markets, U.S. Department of Commerce
Magnus Rydén, Director and TTIP Coordinator, Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs
More speakers are to be confirmed. The seminar is followed by a networking reception.
