East Africa is home to a wide range of humanitarian UN efforts and hosts two large procurement hubs in Entebbe and Nairobi. Operations vary from emergency relief to more permanent engagements, including the management of refugee camps. Due to unfortunate events related to crises such as refugee flows and environmental disasters, the demand for goods and services to meet local needs has increased over the last years and the trend is expected to last. The prolonged duration of many crisis scenarios places higher demands on UN budgets to procure for quality through life-cycle costing, a comparative strength of Swedish goods and services.
Despite state-of-the-arts offerings in products and services that match UN procurement needs, Swedish companies hold a surprisingly small share of its procurement globally, with only 0,16% of all procurement being invoiced by companies in Sweden.
