SHAPING THE MINING INDUSTRY IN THE GULF

Business Sweden, in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Riyadh, invites you to participate in a business and expert delegation to Saudi Arabia and Oman to meet with the major players from the mining industry.

LARGE INVESTMENTS TO DEVELOP THE MINING INDUSTRY IN THE GULF

Saudi Arabia and Oman remain heavily reliant on oil and gas revenues. But as global energy markets continue to underperform there is an increasing incentive to diversify their economies by prioritizing the development of their mining assets. The goal of the mining development projects in the Gulf is to reach global standards in technology, performance, safety and efficiency in order to become a major mining hub in the region.

Saudi Arabia recently launched the Vision 2030 and The National Transformation Programme 2020, which intends to increase the mining sector’s GDP contribution from 16 billion USD to 25 billion USD by 2020 and create 90 000 new jobs. Saudi Arabia plans to achieve set targets through intensified exploration of mineral resources, a review of licensing procedures for extraction and more investment in infrastructure. Oman on the other hand has a substantial mineral resource base and has launched Oman's biggest sovereign wealth fund worth 260 million USD and will be invested in mining projects.

POSITIONING SWEDISH MINING SYSTEMS, INNOVATIONS AND SERVICES ON THE SAUDI MARKET

The occasion will act as a door opener for Swedish companies interested in creating or enhancing their business within the mining sector in both countries. Discussions with high-level officials and major stakeholders in the mining sector will provide a platform for identifying the areas where Swedish solutions can make a difference in the industry. Some of the areas are:

  • Mining processing technologies and equipment
  • Engineering services
  • Mine safety
  • Mine software
  • Environmental equipment and consulting
