AIRPORT DEVELOPMENT INVESTMENTS TO MEET GLOBAL STANDARDS
Saudi Arabia has a broad master-plan to upgrade 37 airports in the country by 2020 for total investment value of over 10 bn USD. The goal of the planned and existing airport development projects is to reach global standards in among others technology, performance, safety and efficiency in order to become a major aviation gateway in the region. The long-term development goal is to almost double airport passenger capacity from actual 80 million passengers. Some of the significant projects include the new airport in Jeddah as well as new terminals to be built in Riyadh and Dammam. Public Private Partnerships and Built-Operate-Transfer models have recently been used in some of the airport projects that have encouraged international companies to enter and invest in the market.
