Business Sweden, in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Amman and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, invites you to participate in an official business delegation to Jordan to meet with the United Nations (UN) and its implementing partners. The delegation, headed by high-level representatives from Sweden, will visit Amman between 27 – 28 October 2015.
The UN is represented by 17 agencies in Jordan, making it one of the organisation’s largest operations in the Middle East. Amman is the main procurement hub for the UN in the region, annually acquiring products and services for the UN missions in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Palestine to a total value of several billion SEK.
Swedish companies have an excellent reputation within the UN, but hold a very limited share of its procurement in the Middle East. The delegation will focus on promoting Swedish solutions; products, systems and services, as well as acting as a door opener for Swedish companies interested in enhancing their business within the UN system in the Middle East. Symposiums and field visits will offer the Swedish delegates the opportunity to meet with key UN stakeholders as well as procurement experts, in order to exchange knowledge and experiences. A further aim with the visit is to initiate a dialogue concerning procurement criteria such as environmental aspects, life cycle costs, user -friendliness etc. versus price.
MAJOR NEEDS AND EXTENSIVE PROCUREMENT PLANS
The UN and other global organizations are currently allocating large amounts for humanitarian and development aid in the Middle East. Procurement constitutes a significant portion of expenditure in the UN system, providing a springboard for suppliers to introduce goods and services in different countries and regions. Swedish companies offer a wide range of high quality and innovative products and services with a competitive life-time cost in several sectors, e.g. water and sanitation, transport solution, health, emergency and relief, construction material and equipment, ICT, food and nutrition and energy solutions.
MAKING SWEDISH SOLUTIONS KNOWN TO THE UN SYSTEM
The delegation will meet both high-level representatives and procurement professionals from the UN and its implementing partners in the Middle East. Read more about the programme on the following pages and please confirm your participation as soon as possible but no later than 18 September, 2015, by using the attached registration form.
