The largest and most dense populated region in Mexico comes to Sweden to learn and benchmark on Swedish expertise within maternal and elderly care, oncology and infections control.
Representatives from the Ministry of Health in charge of developing and implementing healthcare models for the State of Mexico will travel to Sweden in June, 2013. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Business Sweden have organized this delegation in order to promote Swedish expertise and solutions; creating an event suitable for companies to present and share policies and best practices with key stakeholders.
The visiting State is the largest in the Mexican federation and a benchmark to other States. The healthcare agenda of the state of Mexico is focused on strengthening the public healthcare and developing models to bring care services closer to its widely spread population of more than 15 million inhabitants which contributes with 10% of Mexico GDP.
The current administration plans to construct 5 cancer-specialized clinics, 8 municipal hospitals, 9 maternal clinics and 17 elderly care centers in the coming 5 years. The investment during 2012 was USD 1.18bn and a similar level is planned annually for the coming 5 years of the current administration.
Opportunities for Swedish healthcare companies
The ongoing investment in healthcare services from State of Mexico will focus on specific priorities, for which Swedish companies can contribute by presenting care models and solutions to the increasing demand. By taking the first step in meeting with key healthcare decision makers from State of Mexico, Swedish companies can initiate a relationship which could translate into a long-term driver for the development of healthcare solutions in Mexico.
The aforementioned four priorities for the state of Mexico are the improvement of the maternal, elderly and cancer care as well as infections control.
During the three days program, the delegation will meet with Swedish policy makers and private sector representatives. Visits to geriatric, maternal and oncology centers as well as presentations and roundtables on specific topics such as infections control will be organized to promote Swedish expertise. This model aims at providing companies with the opportunity to present their offerings and gain knowledge about opportunities within the Mexican healthcare sector.
