The 26-29 January Business Sweden and the Swedish Embassy in UAE are organizing a Swedish Pavilion at Arab Health, the largest trade fair of its kind in the Middle East. This year 21 companies will exhibit in the joint pavilion. A further eight Swedish companies will participate individually. This is the largest Swedish participation ever and a clear sign of the growing interest from Swedish companies for the region. Swedish State Secretary for Health Care, Public Health and Sport H.E. Ms. Agneta Karlsson will visit Arab Health and participate in the high level meetings and seminars arranged at the Swedish pavilion on 27-28 January.
Governments in the Gulf (GCC) countries are allocating increasing budget shares to health care, fuelled by high population growth, longer life expectancy and the extension of compulsory health-insurance, as well as the spread of lifestyle disease and chronic illness. The United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia account together for 75 % of GCC-healthcare spending and their annual, double-digit, increase is expected to continue. Qatar, Bahrain and Oman – when it comes to spending in percentage of GDP – are fast becoming highly significant markets. Other countries in the region, such as Iraq also have plan extensive investments in the health care sector. The growing business opportunities in the region account for the large interest from Swedish companies and record participation at this year´s edition of Arab Health.
