25 May - 28 May

Health Care Delegation to Thailand and Vietnam

On May 25-28, 2015, Business Sweden together with the Embassies of Sweden in Bangkok and Hanoi will arrange a healthcare delegation to Thailand and Vietnam. The delegation will give your company access to government officials and buyers as well as decision makers at public and private hospitals. Focus will be on promoting Swedish medical equipment and devices, in line with the increased presence of Swedish healthcare actors.

Expand your network and promote sales in two key SEA growth markets

Thailand

One of South East Asia’s (SEA’s) largest healthcare markets with an approximate expenditure of 16 billion USD in 2013 (the SEA average is 11 billion USD). The medical device sector is estimated to 1.1 billion USD and is expected to grow 9% annually in the short term. Thailand is dependent on foreign medical equipment with more than 65% being imported. Public hospitals make up 55% of the market, yet growth is primarily driven by upgrades and replacement at private hospitals.

Common healthcare challenges

  • Cardiovascular diseases (stroke and ischemic heart disease)
  • Cancer (bronchus & lung, liver and breast)
  • Chronic respiratory diseases (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma and lower respiratory tract infections)
  • Communicable diseases (HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria)

Vietnam

A potentially large future market, with a population of over 90 million. There are over 1,000 public hospitals and more than 100 private hospitals. Healthcare expenditure was approximately 10 billion USD in 2013 and the medical device market is currently estimated at 265 million USD with an approximate annual growth of 5%. Over 95% of the medical devices in the country are imported and face low import duties. Key import countries are Germany, Japan and USA.

Common healthcare challenges

  • Cardiovascular diseases (stroke and ischemic heart disease)
  • Cancer treatment (lung, colorectal, stomach, prostate, uterus and cervix)
  • Chronic respiratory diseases (lower respiratory infections and asthma)
  • Communicable diseases (HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and hospital-acquired infections)

Example of devices that are in demand:

  • Radiotherapy equipment
  • Neurosurgical devices
  • Cardiovascular devices
  • Operating theatre equipment
  • Infection control devices
  • Diagnostics devices (e.g. for viral infections and diabetes)
  • Imaging diagnostic equipment (e.g. CT-scan, MRI and ultrasound)
  • Orthopedic implants and related devices
