Business Sweden invites you to a seminar in Stockholm dedicated to the food industry in Russia. The seminar will focus on areas such as the growing retail sector as well as the foodservice (HoReCa) and food ingredient sectors. Swedish companies already present on the market will share their experience and views on the market.
The Russian retail market has recovered from the 2008 crisis and reached a retail value of 110 MEUR in 2012. Domestic X5 Retail Group is the market leader but foreign chains such as Auchan, Spar and Billa have entered the Russian market and offer a new level of maintaining and handling customers. Russian consumers are returning to high quality products with good production control. The import share remains stable and constitutes 40% of the market as Russians trust foreign production for better quality and taste. In large cities such as Moscow and Saint Petersburg, the import share is even higher, reaching 75%.
The foodservice sector has returned to its pre-crisis growth. Major growing segments are fast food, coffee shop and casual-dining. As imports make up the vast majority of products for foodservice segment (up to 65%), Swedish companies have very good potential for entering the market. A large consumer group for the foodservice sector is the age group between 25 – 34 (66%), open for new tastes and experiences.
The food ingredient sector in Russia is still in recovery, however, Swedish suppliers for the industry have high potential as the majority of raw materials and ingredients used by Russian manufactures are imported due to domestic shortage. Russia’s specialized food ingredients market is weighted as follows: flavors (29%), preservatives (24%), colorings (19%), antioxidants (13%), food acids (6%), and cloud emulsions (2%).
Participation in the seminar will give you an excellent chance to be the part of one of the most developing and fast growing markets in the world.
