Swedish Fashion goes New York - Matchmaking and U.S. entry event

Business Sweden is planning a matchmaking and U.S. entry event this fall with the objective to create lasting relationships between Swedish and U.S. companies within the fashion industry. The purpose is to introduce select Swedish companies to the U.S. market, as well as to suitable U.S. actors who can support the U.S. establishment or expansion.

Swedish Fashion in the U.S.

The U.S. is the world's largest market for apparel, and it is expected to grow even more in upcoming years. Most of the largest apparel companies in the U.S. are American - but there is still room for foreign brands in all segments, including the smaller ones. The large metropolitan areas offer the best potential for most Swedish fashion companies. New York is one of those large metropolitan areas, and is considered to be the fashion capital of the U.S. New York is not only the largest retail market in the U.S, it also headquarters’ more than 900 fashion companies, and holds one third of the national fashion wholesale market. New York is a city of opportunities, talent, and competition.

A study by Business Sweden reveals that some of the key success factors when entering the U.S. market include investing enough time and resources on the market entry, to adjust collection, marketing and channel strategy to the new market, to prepare for the differences in business culture, and to choose any business partners with care. In our contact with Swedish fashion companies; one of the main challenges that have been brought up is the difficulties in finding the right partner. Whether it is a distributor, PR- or sales agent, a showroom or a retailer, finding a suitable partner, without  being present locally or having own personnel, often proves to be a major challenge.

Matchmaking and U.S. entry event in Stockholm
