05 May - 08 May The Philippines

Business Delegation focusing on reconstruction in the Philippines

Business Sweden together with the Embassy of Sweden, invites you to participate in a business delegation to the Philippines between May 5th and 8th 2014. The purpose of the delegation is to identify business areas in which Swedish companies can support the Philippine government in the reconstruction of the area affected by the typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda).

The Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) was one of the strongest typhoons (cyclones) to strike land on record. Over a 16 hour period, the "super typhoon" with a force equivalent to a category 5 hurricane and susatined winds of up to 195 mph, affected over 10 percent of the nation's population of 105 million people in 170 cities and six regions.

The total damage and loss from the typhoon Yolanda has been estimated to US$ 13 billion and the overall resource need for recovery and reconstruction has been estimated to over US$ 8 billion for both the private and public sector.

The Philippines are recurrently hit by storms, earthquakes and natural disasters. In order to reconstruct the affected area, the government in the Philippines is committed to rebuild in a more sustainable way to prevent and prepare for the next natural disaster.
