A majority of the Swedish companies in India states that the Swedish brand is a competitive advantage. The type of business Swedish companies’ represent - sustainable from both an environmental and societal perspective is sought after in India and the window of opportunity is now open!
This was also clear when Prime Minister Stefan Lofven in mid-February together with a high-level business delegation visited the “Make in India” week in Mumbai, hosted by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Though, to make business in India has never been considered easy and tedious bureaucracy, corruption, regulations regarding taxation and labor are seen as difficult obstacles to overcome.
The 8th Business Climate Survey conducted by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce India in partnership with Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi, Consulate General in Mumbai and Business Sweden, brings to light the experience of doing business in India as perceived by the Swedish business community.
The 2015/16 survey captures the input from 141 (89%) Swedish companies established in the country from sectors such as Engineering products, IT/Telecom, Automotive & Heavy Vehicle, Fashion & Lifestyle, Life Science/Health Care & Medtech, Service and Defense. Swedish companies have been present in India for decades and generate almost 160,000 direct jobs in India and about 1,1 million jobs indirectly.
