The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Business Sweden cordially invite you to take part in a seminar aimed at presenting opportunities for Swedish companies to provide products and services for disaster risk resilience and relief in Mexico and Central America.
For decades, Sweden has been actively engaged in funding and aiding humanitarian and disaster relief activities, supporting local communities all over the world in building resilience and coping with the consequences of catastrophes.
Mexico and Central America are affected every year by natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, droughts and hurricanes. While increasing the frequency and intensity of severe weather events, climate change also makes communities more vulnerable to the effects of those events by weakening communities and increasing vulnerability. Disaster management and proactive actions towards climate change are therefore a priority of the governments and international aid agencies supporting Mexico and Central America.
The consequences of natural disasters have a major impact on the economies of these countries. The estimated total cost of natural disasters in Mexico and Central America over the past ten years has been valued at around 35 billion US dollars and the majority of the natural disasters have hit Mexico (39%).
Several multilateral organizations as well as bilateral donors prioritize and fund projects to mitigate the effects of climate change and natural disasters in their respective strategies for the region.
This informative seminar is part of a larger, long term commitment from Business Sweden and the Swedish government to leverage Sweden’s and Swedish companies’ interest to cooperate with national and international organizations in Latin America.
Following the seminar, an Official Business Delegation will take place January 23-27 2017 in the region, allowing for Swedish companies to network with decision makers in order to showcase their solutions and discuss potential participation in tenders. The Delegation will tentatively be led by the Minister for Public Administration, Ardalan Shekarabi.
Opportunities for Swedish companies
This seminar will provide Swedish companies with increased knowledge about potential procurement projects and key stakeholders within climate change mitigation, disaster resilience and relief in Mexico and Central America, as well as the path to engage in such opportunities.
We look forward to welcoming you as part of this initiative!
