Healthcare in Canada

20 Feb 2018 14:30 - 16:30 Sveavägen 63, Stockholm

Healthcare in Canada – sector in transformation

Need for innovation and increased efficiency creates opportunities for Swedish companies

Join this seminar to gain valuable insights into the Canadian healthcare market and discuss how Swedish knowledge and technologies can match current Canadian healthcare challenges. Specific focus sectors will include e-health/digital health, seniors care and med tech. Hosted by Business Sweden, Swecare, RISE and Fiber Optic Valley.

Canada and Sweden’s healthcare systems have many similarities and there is a shared common vision to provide public funded comprehensive care to all residents. Canada however, out-spends most other countries (11.5% of GDP) in terms of healthcare investments. Canada shares the same challenges as Sweden with an aging population and increasing cost of healthcare. Many Swedish solutions are of interest since new technologies, services and products can increase efficiency and productivity, reduce labor-associated costs as well as readmission rates of patients.

Canada is pursuing different strategies to help increase efficiency and quality:

  • Decentralizing health care by moving care out of resource-intensive institutions into models of care in the home and community
  • Using healthcare information technologies and processes to seamlessly connect all parts of a healthcare delivery system
  • Proactively manage medication safety and minimize the risk of adverse events
  • Improve care models for patients with poly morbidities and medical disabilities
