Seminar about opportunities in Mexico for Swedish automotive suppliers

Welcome to a breakfast seminar in Gothenburg where we will present business opportunities in Mexico for Swedish automotive suppliers. Take the opportunity to meet with Trade Commissioner Olof Hällerman with more than 15 years' work experience in the sector to discuss and learn more about business opportunities in Mexico.

Whether your company is just starting to explore market opportunities in Mexico or whether you exported to Mexico for years, the purpose of the seminar is to give you the chance to learn more about the market potential and to strengthen your business network.

We will go through:

  • The latest development within the automotive sector in Mexico
  • Concrete business opportunities for Swedish companies in Mexico
  • Case study: Doing business in Mexico - lessons learned

The automotive industry in Mexico

Mexico is the 8th largest producer of light vehicles in the world. A significant shift in cost competitiveness is behind Mexico’s manufacturing revival. A decade ago, average direct manufacturing costs in China were estimated to be 6 percentage points cheaper than Mexico’s, according to the BCG Global Manufacturing Cost-Competitiveness Index. Now, Mexico is estimated to be 4 percentage points cheaper. In fact, Mexico’s manufacturing cost structure improved the most of any of the 25 economies in BCGs index.

Except its cost competiveness Mexico also offers a strategic location for the North and South American markets as well as free-trade agreements with 44 nations, more than any other nation, including the North American Free Trade Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Union.

According to many OEMs there is a lack of Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers to support the growth in Mexico. Despite high levels of FDIs last years there is still a common view that the value chain is still for improvement. During 2014 it was registered a total import activity of auto parts of 36 K Million USD while the total export was of 56.6 K Million USD.

There are business opportunities for the automotive component industry to:

  • Increase sales in a market with a strong excepted growth
  • Place production in Mexico to improve supply chain performance
