The competition was fierce from other Scandinavian regions as Kingspan Insulation finally announced its decision to locate a state-of-the-art production facility in Jönköping, Sweden, where high-performance insulation material is to be manufactured.
Jönköping’s strategic location, solid transportation links and dynamic business region were key factors supporting the company’s choice of manufacturing location. Kingspan has purchased a land area of 70,000 square metres to accommodate the new factory.
Says Mikael Damberg, Sweden’s Minister for Enterprise and Innovation:
“In the period leading up to the decision I contacted Gene Murtagh, Kingspan’s CEO, to emphasise Sweden’s world class manufacturing strengths, and that Jönköping is one of our leading industrial regions. Coupled with Sweden’s strong profile in sustainable production and a housing sector developing at full speed, I believe the country’s industrial competence and availability of a highly-skilled workforce underpinned Kingspan’s decision to invest here.”
Ulrika Cederskog Sundling, Executive Vice President, Invest & Region Sweden, Business Sweden, adds:
“We are pleased that Kingspan Insulation wants to take advantage of new business opportunities in Sweden and, therefore, has decided to invest in a new factory in Jönköping. Sweden’s thriving manufacturing sector offers excellent opportunities for cutting edge advances, sustainability and high productivity, and we recognise that these parameters are highly valued across Kingspan’s operations. We look forward to providing support in the continued process.”
New production site completed 2019
The investment will take effect immediately with a new production facility that is estimated to be operational by the second half of 2019. About 20 people will be recruited to Kingspan Insulation’s new factory in the initial phase. Once at full production capacity, the company estimates that 70-80 people will be employed at the site. The facility will be built with the ambition of meeting Kingspan’s global target of carbon-free manufacturing.
Kingspan Insulation will establish the new site to meet increased demand for high-performance Kooltherm-insulation. Demand for this product has increased significantly in recent years, especially in Sweden and Denmark, and is expected to continue to grow in the other Nordic countries and the Baltic States. Kooltherm is used in energy-efficient construction and enables thin walls to be built with half the insulation thickness compared to traditional insulation material.
