The decision to locate the center in the city of Malmö was according to IBM based on it’s strategic geographical location in the Nordics as well as availability of technology talent from the existing IT industry and from the universities in the region.
According to Niklas Johnsson, responsible for Investment Promotion for the IT Industry at Business Sweden, interest for Sweden as location for Nordic IT delivery centers is growing:
- Nordic companies and public institutions are accelerating their investments in IT solutions to increase productivity and customer service and it continues to grow at a healthy pace. In some segments there is a shortage of experienced IT professionals and the suppliers realize that they need to build local delivery organisations in the Nordics to be able to offer their customers what they need, says Niklas Johnsson.
The Nordic economies have not been effected by the hardships in Southern Europe. Since Sweden is biggest market in the Nordic region, roughly the same size as the others combined, Sweden is the natural place for establishment of a Nordic development and delivery center. Business Sweden is helping international IT companies to understand the Swedish IT market and providing free of charge support in how to practically establish and grow a business in Sweden.
