AGA, part of the German multinational conglomerate Linde Group, has inaugurated Linde’s most modern gas filling plant so far, located in Enköping some 80 km west of Sweden’s capital city Stockholm.
The fully automated cylinder filling plant is the first of its kind Europe and relies on robotics in every phase of its operations, from sorting and filling to warehousing and picking. The investment amounts to €40 million and has created 50 new jobs in Enköping.
“The facility in Enköping is unique. It is the most modern gas cylinder filling plant with fully automatic cylinder handling. This provides numerous benefits to our customers and employees alike in terms of quality, safety and work environment”, says Andreas Opfermann, CEO, AGA Gas AB.
Smart robots do heavy lifting
For the first time, the entire production flow is automated thanks to the use of smart robots. This means that staff at AGA’s new filling plant are relieved of most of the heavy lifting.
“The main tasks of operators have been changed to systems monitoring as well as monitoring of loading and unloading of trucks,” explains Tobias Vikberg, Production and Distribution Manager Sweden at AGA Gas.
“In addition, the business becomes data-driven and we can continuously measure, evaluate and optimize our processes”, he adds.
The high automation level gives AGA’s new plant in Enköping a capacity of 1.8 million cylinder-fillings per year and enables the company to consolidate six filling plants into one.
