Swedish Business Awards

The Swedish Business Awards is annually presented to companies registered in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania that have demonstrated innovativeness, outstanding business achievements and contributions to society and environment.

The awards were founded in 2006 by Business Sweden, the Embassy of Sweden in Lithuania, Swedbank and TeliaSonera, and have since the inception attracted an extended number of business partners, thought leaders and politicians. After several few successful years in Lithuania, the awards were also initiated in Latvia and Estonia in 2009. The project aims to provide positive examples for international establishments and Swedish-Baltic cooperation, as well as to convey Swedish values ​​in business conduction. Furthermore, the event serves as a yearly meeting point for the business, science and political community, to discuss achievements, practices, challenges and trends.  

In 2016, the awards in Latvia are organized by the Embassy of Sweden in Latvia and Business Sweden in partnership with the Swedish Institute. Nomination and communication partners are the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), The Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Latvia, Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Latvia.

Sustainable Growth Award
Baltci Candles
Baltic Candles is the largest candle producer in the Baltic states and one of the largest producers in Europe.
Motivation of the Jury -- Baltic Candles is setting an example of a balanced and sustainable development: for demonstrating a profitable turnover growth, contributing significantly to the social life in Dobele region, and implementing initiatives reducing environmental footprint in the Baltic Sea Region.


Young Entrepreneur of the Year 
Ms. Linda Sinka and Ms. Elina Ingelande, Learn ITLearn IT is a programming lab for primary school children in Latvia where students learn basics of programming through various unplugged activities, simple robotics and game-based programs.
Motivation of the Jury -- For starting a business that lays grounds for 21st century skills of youngsters and setting an example of social entrepreneurship concept with operations in all regions of Latvia that will have an impact on the market and Latvian society at large.

Technological Innovation of the Year Award
Mr. Reinis Adamsons, RORBO
RORBO is a floor heating system that provides a site specific floor heating pipe layout project and custom made chipboard elements. RORBO prefabricated, site specific and custom made chipboard elements are ready for assembling directly on the building site.
Motivation of the Jury -- To a businessman who has developed an efficient technological solution that saves material, installation time, labor cost of its customers and has a significant export potential.

NOMINATION AND CEREMONY 2017

This year, the Swedish Business Awards in Latvia takes place on the 2th of November. Nominations are open for all companies, organizations and individuals active in Latvia. Deadline for applications To be announced later Finalists of the Awards will be announced at the beginning of October. This year’s categories and respective criteria are as follows:

Sustainable Growth Award
Criteria: Harmonious development of the company – turnover growth with positive results during 2011-2017and contributions to environmental and social sustainability.

Young Entrepreneur of the Year
Criteria: A young and inspiring entrepreneur with a good reputation and a sustainable business that makes an impact to the market or society at large.

Technological Innovation of the Year
Criteria: The most remarkable technological innovation that was implemented during 2016 or 2017. The technological innovation can be related to all aspects of the company’s or organization’s activities: new services, products, or work policies and approaches.
